A must-have text for social workers!

Written by SCSG Founding Director Dr. SJ Dodd, Sex-Positive Social Workprovides an overview of key sexuality-related topics for social workers from a sex-positive perspective, which encourages agency in sexual decision making and embraces consensual sexual activity as healthy and to be enjoyed without stigma or shame. Accessible to students as well as social workers and mental-health professionals at all levels, Sex-Positive Social Workemphasizes the relationship between sexual well-being and overall well-being, giving social workers the tools to approach sex and sexuality actively and positively with clients. Advocacy leads to victory!

Known also as the “walking while trans” law, the 1976 statute was used to criminalize Black TransWomen and TransWomen of Color. NPR reported that “91% of people arrested under the statute were Black and Latinx, and 80% identified as women.” The victory was hard fought and won by Black transgender activisits and transgender activisits of color after decades of discrimination.

Is COVID-19 sexually transmitted?

In June of the infamous year 2020, New York City released Safer Sex and COVID-19 guidelines to promote a sex-positive response to increased isolation for many New Yorkers in quarantine. Review the guidelines and share with your partners to help prevent the spread of the virus while attending to your sexual well-being.

More recent reports clarify that while there is no evidence COVID-19 can be transmitted through genital contact, “intimate contact,” such as close heavy breathing or kissing, can.
