Silberman Center for Sexuality and Gender

• This course is designed to explore the physiological, psychological, and socio-cultural variables associated with sexual identity, gender identity, sexual behavior and sexual disorders. Students will develop an understanding and appreciation of key aspects of human sexual behavior throughout various life-stages with an HBSE perspective. Attention will focus upon how cultural, religious, racial, ethnic, gender, ethical and lifestyle issues may impact conceptualization of sexual identity, gender identity, sexual behavior and sexual disorders.

• This class explores U.S. social welfare policy through the lens of gender and includes information on women’s rights, feminist perspective, and the impact of gender stereotypes.

This class explores the ways in which the social welfare system specifically impacts LGBTQ people.

• This class looks at domestic violence and the complex interactions between affected individuals and their environments (children, families, communities). It also includes a focus on interventions.

• This class explores developmental models for positive lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgendered identity, as well as social work skills for assessment and intervention.
